Fortnum & Mason Food Awards 2022

The Fortnum & Mason Food Awards celebrate their tenth anniversary highlighting the best in food and drink writing and broadcasting in the UK. In a blurb on the awards home page, F&M CEO Tom Athron’s noted the milestone by saying “In 2022 we celebrate ten years of discovering and championing the achievements of the UK’s writers, editors, publishers, photographers and broadcasters who encourage us to enjoy, explore, experiment and discover more about food and drink through their work.” At a ceremony today, F&M announced the winners of its 2022 awards.

EYB Members will find many familiar names and books in the shortlist and among the winners, although several of the books will be new discoveries (a few were not yet in the EYB Library!). Leading the pack is the winner of the Food Book category, Eating to Extinction: The World’s Rarest Foods and Why We Need to Save Them by Dan Saladino, which triumphed over A Curious Absence of Chickens by Sophie Grigson; Omelette: Food, Love, Chaos and Other Conversations by Jessie Ware; and the gorgeous Feast Your Eyes on Food by Laura Gladwin. Liz Seabrook snagged top honors in Debut Food Book with The Female Chef: Stories and Recipes from 31 Women Redefining the British Food Scene.

Ed Smith won the Cookery Book award with Crave: Recipes Arranged by Flavour, to Suit Your Mood and Appetite, besting two other exceptional books, Med / Claudia Roden’s Mediterranean by Claudia Roden and Take One Fish: The New School of Scale-to-Tail Cooking and Eating by Josh Niland. In the Debut Cookery Book category, Katarina Cermelj showed how far gluten-free baking can take you, with Baked to Perfection: Delicious Gluten-Free Recipes, with a Pinch of Science taking home the top prize in the category.

Other notable winners included Tim Hayward earning the top spot in the Food Writer category for work in FT Weekend Magazine, and Nicola Miller winning the Cookery Writer award for work in Suffolk News. for See the complete list of nominees and winners, including the winners in the drink and broadcast categories, on our Fortnum & Mason Food Awards 2022 page.
