More gingerbread house eye candy

I just can’t resist posting one last item about gingerbread houses. This one comes from an annual contest hosted by The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville, North Carolina (incidentally, one of my all-time favorite cities in the US). This year the contest was virtual, like so many others, but that did not limit the creativity or excellence of the entries. Far from it – these creations are truly works of art.

It is almost impossible to believe that these creations are edible – the design details are so intricate and tiny. The amount of time and effort that went into the entries is mind boggling and it seems inadequate to call them ‘gingerbread houses’. The above entry was deemed the Grand Prize Winner of the 28th National Gingerbread House Competition. The Merry Mischief Bakers titled their creation “St. Nick’s Christmas Decor Shop”. My favorite entry is shown below; head over to the Omni Grove Park’s Instagram or Facebook accounts to see more.

Amazing, I would never have the patience to do this! My baking is all about taste first and appearance second, whereas gingerbread houses seem to be the opposite.
