Everyone’s favorite Hamptons cook recently released her latest cookbook Modern Comfort Food. But as she tells NPR in an interview, “All my books are really about comfort food.” In the 8-minute discussion, the domestic doyenne also dishes great one-liners such as “I often say that you can be miserable before eating a cookie and you can be miserable after eating a cookie, but you can never be miserable while you’re eating a cookie.”

As winter begins to set in here in the Northern Hemisphere, restaurants that remained viable due to outdoor seating and takeaway are pondering whether to close for the season. Amanda Cohen, owner of Dirt Candy in New York City sums up the situation like this: “I don’t think any restaurants’ finances are so good right now that they can afford to close, but I think there are some restaurants that you can’t afford not to close.” she explained to The Hill, likening the closures to a type of ‘hibernation’.

The hard Brexit deadline is fast approaching, and part of the process is negotiating new deals with other countries including the US. To that end, UK officials have said that they stand firm that no chlorine-washed chicken from the States would be part of any trade deal. As Jay Rayner notes in The Guardian, that is not the only food safety and sustainability issue swirling around potential post-Brexit deals.

The Museum of Food + Drink (MOFAD) has an interesting virtual event happening on November 18. Writers J. Kenji López-Alt, Dr. Cynthia Greenlee, Charlotte Druckman, and Silvia Killingsworth will host a panel conversation with MOFAD on the current state and future of food writing in America. The Best American Food Writing 2020 is guest edited by López-Alt, series edited by Killingsworth, and features the work of Dr. Greenlee and Druckman.
