Perspective is everything – an open letter to the Great British Bake Off
August 10, 2020 by JennyAs I was not feeling well this morning, I decided to watch comfort television before I began my day, which always is The Great British Bake Off. You may recall my harsh judgments of the last series in my recap posts.
While watching the beginning of Cake Week again, I began to scrutinize my own hasty criticisms of the contestants and the format. After the last eight months, my ability to appreciate the joys of life has been given a jump start. Life is a roller coaster ride. Sometimes we’re climbing higher and the excitement builds anticipating the apex. The view from the top will be outstanding. Other times we’re plummeting toward earth holding our breath as we fear hitting the bottom. 2020 has been the year of the plummet. To help ease the pain of the plummet, give us more GBBO!
What I wouldn’t give to watch the bakers struggling in a white tent and this time not be so judgy. Darcie shared that the GBBO has been secretly filming its next season and I, for one, will appreciate its return.
While we await the new season, I am publicly begging the producers of the series to consider adding the seasons which have not been televised here in the States, including the Professional shows, Jo Brand’s An Extra Slice, and the Comic Relief seasons. Can we petition the Queen to help us starved Americans? We are hungry for your bakes, your comic relief, and Brand’s bawdy humor. How about airing the holiday shows that haven’t made it to Netflix? We’ll take crumbs.
Please, take our money. Take my firstborn (take my second born too). We will pay for the privilege of enjoying the shows which we have not been privy to. Have pity on us. While we are asking for an inch, we may as well as for it all – let us watch the bake-off shows from Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and France.
I am going to start a Hangry Bakers group to bring our cause to the worldwide stage. Perspective is everything and you all know what they say about hindsight. I vow not to be so judgy in the future.
