Bourdain Day remembrances

Today would be Anthony Bourdain’s 64th birthday, and the culinary world still mourns his loss. His friends Eric Ripert and José Andrés started #BourdainDay in 2018 as a day to honor the chef, author, and television star. Today remembrances have been streaming through social media.

Ripert tweeted “Celebrating My Dear Friend Anthony Bourdain. THX for your unconditional Friendship & loyalty, special moments & laughters! The inspiration, talent, legacy. On your birthday we remember & celebrate your life. Where ever you are Cheers!!” Andrés posted a video and urged others to do it as well, saying “Let’s do a video celebrating #BourdainDay with a cocktail, in a bar, at home cooking your call!”

Those who didn’t know him personally shared their favorite Bourdain quotes. One that particularly resonates with me is “Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund.” Today’s tumultuous world could use a little of Bourdain’s wit and wisdom. What I wouldn’t give to hear his thoughts on the pandemic’s effects on restaurants and the army of workers that make them run.

Anthony Bourdain still inspires me to be more open, and I dearly miss his work.

I feel that if many Americans had had a chance to drink with him and actually hear his message, the whole world would be a better place. He crossed all lines, went to all people, and most of all, listen to them and retold their stories. We could all use a bit more of that right now.

So today, I am remembering someone beautifully flawed, whom I enjoyed seeing and reading greatly and enjoyed for his skills at cooking, his amazing storytelling, his gustatory and libational adventurism, and for having no reservations about his fellow humans.

    Happy #BourdainDay!

We have really enjoyed the reality that Tony bought to us through his TV show. A very sad loss to the culinary world,Here was a man who not only traveled the world hunting out food and interesting people, but showed us to step outside of the normal travel experience but cross the road and get to know locals
