Over 8,000 video recipes in the EYB Library

Video recipes are a growing trend in food media. Some people use them as a tutorial while others watch for entertainment. The videos can take the form of a mini-episode of a cooking show or focus on specific techniques or methods. Sometimes it’s easier to make something if you can watch how it’s done, as in the braiding technique for the 5 strand wholewheat challah bread shown below. A few of these video recipes are made as much for relaxation or humor as they are for serious cooking.

The best of them teach you how to make a dish or how to become better at making it. We’ve indexed the best, and we can now boast over 8,000 video recipes in the EYB Library. Many of them feature your favorite chefs, bloggers, and cookbook authors like Yotam Ottolenghi, Annabel Langbein, and Ina Garten. In just a little over a year we added 3,000 video recipes and we anticipate this trend will continue.

Some of the videos stream directly from the EYB website while others can be viewed via a link, like the Barefoot Contessa videos from Food Network. (Some websites do not allow us to embed the videos.) Video recipes are denoted in the EYB Library by the small television icon at the bottom of the recipe description. Click on this icon (outlined in red below) to pull up the video or a link to it. You can also find videos by filtering search results using the “Videos Only” filter. Use these video recipes to learn new techniques, discover new cuisines, or merely to admire your favorite food celebrities.

Some of these recipes are specific “how-to” instructions, like How to make a lacy chocolate collar for a cake from the blog The Pink Whisk, or How to cure trout from the blog Great British Chefs. Others are traditional recipes with the added bonus of video instruction, like The ultimate chocolate cake by Annabel Langbein and Tomato and pomegranate salad by Yotam Ottolenghi. These video recipes are like bite-size cooking shows without the annoying commercials.
