We are pleased to share a promotion for our next EYBD Book, My Bangladesh Kitchen: Recipes and Food Memories
from a Family Table by Saira Hamilton.
Saira Hamilton is a chef, cooking teacher and food writer,
specializing in Bengali-inspired food. While competing in the
MasterChef competition in 2013, she reached the finals and won high
praise from the judges for her delicious dishes and deft spicing.
Her cookbook My Bangladesh Kitchen is an explosion of
dynamic flavors, spices and colors, rich with the love and history
of her heritage.
Saira’s background in teaching the art of cooking is evident
throughout the book. She covers techniques, ingredients and
instructions with the detail of someone who is invested in the
task. She is your mother or grandmother pointing out the ins and
outs of the perfect pie crust and dedicated to imparting her
knowledge to the reader. Brilliant photographs of the dishes, the
people and landscape of Bangladesh are shared. The recipes are
approachable and ingredients relatively easy to procure. Spice up a
meal with Hot, sweet and sour eggplant or spicy fried potatoes or
go all in with Duck curry and bamboo shoots. There is something for
everyone in this book.
As someone who loves to study the breads and sweets of other
cultures, I am thrilled that the author covers both. In the past
those areas were neglected in cookbooks that focus on international
cuisines. From Naan to Rice flour lace breads to Vanilla spiced
rice pudding with mango, Saira reaches deep into her heritage and
brings it to life in these glorious pages.
