How to outfit your pantry like a GBBO baker
August 31, 2019 by JennyAs Darcie reminded us last week, Netflix here in the US is broadcasting The Great British Bake Off three days after the original episode airs in the UK. Raise your hand if you have already watched Cake Week (raise both hands if you have watched it twice like me). Every series has me amazed at how fast I fall for the contestants and how quick I am to spot a new pan or gadget that I must source.
I can’t be the only one that wonders “where can I get that pan” so I’m saving you all the headache of googling with today’s post. Happy shopping!
The deep multi-size cake pan tin (UK link) pictured above is one of my best baking purchases along with two additional dividers (UK link). Before I found this pan I would fashion myself a divider with a piece of aluminum foil and then curse the results. Invest in one of these pans for all sorts of uses: Angel slices, Battenberg cake, Petit fours, and so many other baked creations.
Want to make perfect financiers? The Lekue baking mold (UK link) above works very well to produce (and then release) the delicate cakes. Financiers can be made in various shapes – round, boat-shaped and rectangular. I am particularly fond of the latter two. Buy a mold and make the Coffee, walnut and brown butter financiers with espresso glaze which are spectacular.
I have a serious collection of friand molds from around the world as well as owning a tin like the one above (UK link). My tin has a floral design on the bottom of the pan that makes a cute impression on the top of the cake. There is just something darling and impressive about small oval cakes (these sour lemon cakes I made from Dappled are amazing!)
The tins/molds that I have mentioned above are the ones I use the most. Other baking-related items you may want to put on your holiday shopping list:
