Oprah’s new cookbook debuts

Food Health & Happiness

No one can sell a book quite like Oprah Winfrey. For years she’s been helping authors become overnight successes with her Book Club, and now she’s doing it again, but this time with a book of her own. Her cookbook, titled Food, Health, and Happiness: 115 On-Point Recipes for Great Meals and a Better Life debuted yesterday, and it’s already at #1 in Amazon’s “U.S. Regional Cooking, Food & Wine” category.

Oprah has had a complicated relationship with food over the years, but she says she has finally made peace with it. She wrote this book with help from chefs who have cooked for her over the years, like Rosie Daley (who wrote In the Kitchen with Rosie: Oprah’s Favorite Recipes), Art Smith, Mei Lin, Taryn Huebner, and Sonny Sweetman. In addition to recipes, the book is filled with anecdotes and memoirs.

The book also features the Weight Watchers program, for which Oprah has been a spokesperson for years. The recipes including the “points” each has under the program’s calorie counting system. Although Oprah is number one on the Amazon rankings, judging from the popularity of Oprah’s other books in the Library, Food, Health, and Happiness isn’t poised to be a top pick among EYB Members.
