June is London Food Month

 Fergus Henderson & Angela Hartnett

Today might be National Doughnut Day in the US but in London, the scope of celebrating is much more expansive. The London Evening Standard is promoting its first London Food Month, featuring hundreds of food-related activities including events by celebrity chefs and over 50 food stalls. In addition, there will be open-air cinema, Dj’s, live music, and art installations.

The celebration aims to cement London’s status as one of the world’s culinary capitals. In addition to showcasing the city’s food offerings, London Food Month will promote awareness of food waste, and features the Cook for Syria project.

One event that is planned to be repeated in upcoming years is a celebration of the influence of the city’s top chefs. The 2017 Icon of London award winner is St. John Restaurant, helmed by chef Fergus Henderson. The ‘nose-to-tail’ pioneer will be serving a very long (and very expensive) lunch at St. John on 3 June. In addition to Icon of London award, an prize also goes to a culinary trailblazer. This year’s Food Month Hero award goes to Angela Hartnett, who worked under both Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing. See the full calendar of events at the London Food Month website.
