I might try the walnut-cheddar quick bread: I always love a good quick-bread recipe. But I'd like to add that I'm THANKFUL for the EYB recipe indices. Based on its title, I would have expected this book to offer "basic" recipes: basic vinaigrette, marinara sauce, roast chicken, pound cake, that sort of thing. I wouldn't have been particularly interested, even though I admire Patricia Wells. So I was quite surprised that the recipes seem much more interesting and intriguing. Maybe I'm misinterpreting the meaning of "master" in the title? (The recipes in the index look more like *masterful* recipes to me.)
