Food resolutions for the new year
January 2, 2017 by Darcie
As the calendar page flipped from December to January, social media news feeds flipped as well, switching from posts about decadent desserts and holiday cocktails to links for clean eating and home organization. If you are the type to make New Year’s resolutions, we’ve gathered a few posts for helpful tips that involve food resolutions.
We’ll start off with indexed magazine Food and Wine, which offers over 20 healthy vegetable dishes to keep you on track in 2017. I’ve bookmarked the Lemony quinoa salad with shaved vegetables (pictured above) as a dish to try soon. Along the same lines, another indexed magazine, Cooking Light, offers 11 ways to eat better now. Instead of promoting particular recipes, this slideshow offers advice on how to cut back on sugar, how to eat a better breakfast, and other tips to improve your diet. The James Beard Foundation is featuring several healthy winter salad recipes that will satisfy your culinary desires while cutting calories at the same time.
If you are contemplating going on a diet, you might want to head over to The Washington Post. They’re doing an experiment, putting different diets to the test. Five Post staffers plan to try five diets in January to see how they work. You can read which diets they are using and get a dietician’s take on each one.
And if you are dieting, here is some good news: recent research has found that you don’t have to eliminate pasta in order to lose weight. In fact, the study found that “pasta consumption was linked in both women and men of different ages with a lower BMI, smaller waist circumference, and lower waist-to-hip ratio. So long as they weren’t exceeding the recommended nutritional intake based on their overall caloric needs, the more pasta people consumed, the less obese they were.”
