Cook for Syria Recipe Book

Purchasing #CookforSyria Recipe Book  edited by Serena Guen will not only gift yourself with a spectacular cookbook but also will provide you with the satisfaction that you are donating to help the Syrian humanitarian effort. All profits from the sale of this book will be donated to charity – in aid of UNICEF’s Children of Syria Fund. I have pre-ordered the book myself and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

Soup for Syria: Recipes to Celebrate Our Shared Humanity by Barbara Abdeni Massaad was released in October of 2015 with a similar goal – to help those in need using food as a medium. At our very core, we all have the same basic needs: shelter, food and the knowledge that our loved ones are safe and healthy. Most of us are fortunate that we enjoy these things on a daily basis. I love that those would love food have built this community to help those whose basic needs have been erased.

#CookforSyria began as a fundraising initiative curated by Clerkenwell Boy and SUITCASE Magazine. The month-long campaign focused around Syrian cuisine encouraged everyone from the UK’s top chefs to people at home to cook and raise money in aid of UNICEF’s Syria Relief fund via Next Generation London (UNICEF’s youth branch). It mushroomed into a global food movement to bring us together for the greater good. With recipes and help pouring in, a cookbook was the next logical step.

The book is home to a collection of generations’ old recipes donated by Syrian families as well as Syrian-inspired recipes donated by celebrity chefs and cookbook authors including:  Amelia Freer, Angela Hartnett, Anna Jones, Bruno Loubet, Chetna Makan, Ed Smith, Ella Mills (Deliciously Ella), Elly Curshen, Fergus Henderson, Georgina Hayden, Gizzi Erskine, Hemsley+Hemsley, Henrietta Inman, Izy Hossack (TopWithCinnamon), Jack Monroe, Jamie Oliver, Jeremy Lee, John Gregory-Smith, John Whaite, José Pizarro, Kylee Newton, Lily Vanilli, Martin Morales, Nuno Mendes, Olia Hercules, Oliver Rowe, Rosie Birkett, Sami Tamimi, Selin Kiazim, Skye Gyngell, Sophie Michell, Symmetry Breakfast, Thomasina Miers, Yotam Ottolenghi and more!
