Actually, I don't do a very good job at that and would like to do better.

  • kayanelson  on  October 12, 2016

I also don't do a very good job at incorporating grains. I'm starting to use farro and barley a little bit more but haven't done much with quinoa or other grains.

  • gjelizabeth  on  October 12, 2016

Rather than increase the amount of grains I look to increasing the quality of grains I eat, i.e. organic whole grains rather than conventionally-farmed refined grains.

  • fjain  on  October 12, 2016

My pantry reflects a conscious decision to eat whole grains. Dinner is usually a grain (rice, farrow, whatever) + a vegetable dish, or maybe a soup/casserole that incorporates both. And cheese 🙂

  • meggan  on  October 12, 2016

Grain salads instead of leaf based salads.

  • vinochic  on  October 12, 2016

I've fallen off the wagon lately but I was trying to start the days with oatmeal.

  • ccav  on  October 13, 2016

I make big batches of whole grains on the weekend and use them as a base for work lunches or dinners during the week.
Current favorites are whole oat groats and rye berries.

  • Larkspur  on  October 13, 2016

I use whole grains in one pot meals–for instance a chicken and rice dish that does not call for precooked rice–the rice cooks with all the other ingredients in the oven.

  • jd5761  on  October 13, 2016

I tend to "bulk out" my meals with grains but I don't think I show much imagination. Breakfast is still where I use most grains.

  • eliza  on  October 13, 2016

I use a variety of grains like farro, barley, brown rice, bulgur and quinoa. I keep them in the freezer in small portions.

I eat popcorn for a snack

  • sgump  on  October 13, 2016

I remain amazed at the versatility of humble oatmeal (sweet, savory, and everything in between)–and trust that other grains would respond favourably to a similar continuum.

  • tui  on  October 13, 2016

I am exploring adding more grains to our meals, but feel I have long way to go. So far I have mostly been incorporating grains such as buckwheat into vegetable/salad style dishes.

  • sarahawker  on  October 14, 2016

I need to change the way I shop to incorporate more grains. Anything beyond rice is expensive @ the grocery store but there is a farmers market where they are affordable, but I do need to make it a point to go there.

I mix yogurt with muesli almost every day for breakfast.

  • jenniesb  on  October 17, 2016

I bought a pressure cooker last year which has been a game-changer in terms of incorporating more grains into my diet. I can now cook up grains in no time and I love that it's so easy to make multi-grain salads, which I eat a lot.

  • Orielle  on  October 17, 2016

  • heatherknape  on  October 19, 2016

I try to incorporate whole grains into dinner as often as possible, with quinoa, brown rice, barley, farro, cornmeal and grits. Are cornmeal and grits considered whole grains? It's challenging to find something my kids will eat, so I'm still searching for success. Can't wait to try out this new cookbook!

  • anightowl  on  October 22, 2016

I keep lots of different grains on hand, everything from tiny teff and kaniwa, to sturdy barley and millet, and several varieties of rice. Cooking all of them perfectly is painless with a rice cooker.

  • pinkchampies  on  October 22, 2016

I grind a preferred grain and use instead of breadcrumbs in meatballs, for schnitzels, etc. Freekah is favourite which adds great flavour too. My resistant husband is none the wiser.
