Boston launches The Readable Feast this weekend
June 16, 2016 by Darcie
Boston-area EYB Members, you may want to rearrange your weekend schedule for the inaugural edition of The Readable Feast, an annual culinary book festival celebrating and supporting New England’s writers, cookbook authors, editors and chefs. The Readable Feast will be held this Friday and Saturday, June 17 and 18, at the Boston Public Market, Boston’s indoor, a year-round marketplace for locally sourced groceries and specialty agricultural products.
The festival was developed by co-directors Louisa Kasdon, writer, food and community activist, and the founder of Let’s Talk About Food LLC; and Annie B. Copps, writer, editor, trained chef and culinary media personality. “Launching The Readable Feast seemed like a perfect marriage to us. With the Festival, we could connect the dots between the food writing community and the food creating community of farmers, fishermen, and artisans at the Boston Public Market,” said Kasdon. “And we were truly astonished at just how many New Englanders publish terrific new books every year about food!” she added.
Among the many cookbooks being celebrated at the event are award-winning books like The Beetlebung Farm Cookbook by Chris Fischer and Catherine Young and The Food Lab by J. Kenji López-Alt, along with other favorites like Baking with the Brass Sisters by Marilynn Brass and Sheila Brass and Simply Ancient Grains by Maria Speck. In addition to a cookbook awards ceremony to be held on Friday, there will be a day of 20-minute alternating cooking demonstrations and seminars on Saturday.
