Winter food. Yummy comfort food, slow cooking and warms your soul!

I love Winter food. The decadence and richness of it just speaks to me on a cellular level!

Look forward every July and August for the harvest of the Sumo mandarins. So hard to find in the stores but so easy to peel and beautifully sweet, and few pips. More expensive than ordinary mandarins but so worth the extra money and the long wait.

Winter, definitely winter. Slow cooked steps and roast brook vegetables. Yum!

I love the Sumos too Cati! At this time of year I am excited to get cooking with butternut and spaghetti squash. And we LOVE Green Dragon Apples…they are coming soon. Best eating apple ever!

Definitely fall and spring. I love the fruit and veggie possibilities, and find such therapy when cooking in those seasons. I would LOVE to have more ideas for winter. It's just one of those seasons that doesn't get a lot of attention and knowing how to cook seasonally for that time period would be great. Thank you for the chance to win. I love Maggie's recipes and her books are always so beautiful.

    Summer!

  • southerncooker  on  September 29, 2015

While I love the veggies of summer, my favorite time of year to cook always seems to be fall. Cool mornings and evenings seem to call me back to the kitchen to get cooking.

Autumn food – all the awesomeness of summer crops still coming out of the garden, plus wild mushrooms!

  • enalawso  on  September 30, 2015

Winter food can be as rich or as simple as you choose; my preference is for the rich deep even dark flavours of winter vegetables and fruits coupled with the more interesting cuts of meat and game.

When the weather is cold you come in from a brisk walk and the house smells of something delicious roasting in the oven – those are memorable times. One reason to love winter.

  • PiaOC  on  October 26, 2015

So hard to pick one season! There was is something magic about the warmth created by an oven on a chilly winter's day. Different magic smelling a freshly baked fruit tart in spring.
