Fall cookbook preview

open cookbooks

The slow drip of cookbook releases will turn into a gushing fountain in a few short weeks. Over at indexed blog Food52, they’ve listed 30 falls cookbooks that they are excited to start reading. Some of the books are upcoming US releases of popular UK and Australian books, like Bistronomy by Katrina Meynink and Morito by Samantha Clark and Samuel Clark.

It looks like both the UK and US will be getting a new Ottolenghi book. Nopi: The Cookbook by Yotam Ottolenghi and Ramael Scully (available in September in the UK and October in the US) is sure to be an instant bestseller. Other big names are releasing new books in the fall as well. One of the most highly anticipated is The Food Lab by J. Kenji López-Alt of Serious Eats and Cook’s Illustrated fame. The release date on this book was pushed back time and again, but The Food Lab now has a firm date in September.

Popular author Madhur Jaffrey has a new book called Vegetarian India that is also likely to be a hit. Slow Food doyenne Alice Waters is releasing My Pantry, an intimate cookbook that focuses not her iconic restaurant, but rather on her own kitchen. The book details how Waters shops, stores, and prepares the pantry staples and preserves that form the core of her daily meals. Another intimate book comes from Ruth Reichl, former editor of Gourmet magazine. My Kitchen Year details how Reichl coped when Gourmet abruptly shut down in 2009. “I did what I always do when I’m confused, lonely, or frightened,” she writes. “I disappeared into the kitchen.”

Indexed blogger Clotilde Dusoulier of Chocolate and Zucchini has a new book on the way with Ginette Mathiot simply titled Preserving. Visit Food52 to see more titles being released in September and October. Which cookbook are you most looking forward to reading this fall?

I'm looking forward to Alice Waters' My Pantry as well. And even though I have more cookbooks for sweets than I really *need* I can't resist checking out new baking/dessert titles — I definitely have my eye on Classic Cookies with Modern Twists by Ellen Jackson and Sally's Candy Addiction by one of my favorite bloggers.

Definitely want to read, probably won't want to own:
My Pantry and several others sandwiched right around it in the Food52 list — Morito by Samantha Clark and Samuel Clark (but I'd ten times rather have a US edition of Moro; is that ever going to happen?), My Kitchen Year by Ruth Reichl, Near & Far by Heidi Swanson, and Nopi by Yotam Ottolenghi and Ramael Scully.

I have pre-ordered Nopi and Near & Far (and can't wait)! Am interested in Morito and the Food Lab as well, but am holding off on those for now.

Seen anything interesting? Let us know & we'll share it!
