Cookbooks by some oldie but goodie celebrities

Joy of Liberace

Now this is fun – a collection of vintage cookbooks by vintage celebrities (we apologize for the U.S.-centric nature of the post; if any of our other members have some vintage celebrity cookbooks from the U.K. or elsewhere, we’d love to hear of them).

BuzzFeed recently compiled a collection of cookbooks that are just so tempting to think about in so many ways (we’re not saying necessarily to cook from). Here are five we especially enjoyed and couldn’t resist commenting on:

Liberace Cooks, by the man himself, (we also found in the EYB library the Joy of Liberace: Retro Recipes from the World’s Kitschiest Kitchen): The mind boggles.

Karma Cookbook: Great Tasting Dishes to Nourish Your Body and Feed Your Soul by Boy George and Dragana G. Brown: Yes, that Boy George! We wouldn’t have been surprised at a cosmetics book, but a cookbook?

The Sinatra Celebrity Cookbook: Barbara, Frank & Friends by Barbara Sinatra and Frank Sinatra: Check out the toupée on the cover photo and, apparently, singing “doobie doobie doo” while cooking is optional.

Treasury of Great Recipes by Mary and Vincent Price: We had to put one legitimate entry here. When Price wasn’t scaring us to death, he was actually a really good cook.

Alice’s Brady Bunch Cookbook by Ann B. Davis: All together now:

“Here’s the story of a lovely lady
Who was bringing up three very lovely girls.
All of them had hair of gold, like their mother,
The youngest one in curls.

Here’s the story, of a man named Brady,
Who was busy with three boys of his own,
They were four men, living all together,
Yet they were all alone.

Till the one day when the lady met this fellow
And they knew it was much more than a hunch,
That this group would somehow form a family.
That’s the way we all became the Brady Bunch.
The Brady Bunch,

That’s the way we all became the Brady Bunch.
The Brady Bunch.”

(You’re going to hate us, since you will now have this song in your head all day).
