Which food term would you like to stomp out?

We loved a recent story on Grub
Street New York discussing annoying food terms. As they
state, “The time has come to publicly shame these terrible
words and constructions and eliminate them from food writing
forever.” They proceed to list a group of words that should be
expunged and ask for more suggestions. So what are these words?
Here you go (with a few of our own comments):
- Addictive
- Artisan – It used to be a great word until the fast-food industry found it
- Approachable
- Bill of Fare – only for Revolutionary War enactments
- Boasts
- Cooked to Perfection
- Cornucopia
- Decadent
- Delectable
- Eatery
- Enrobe
- Epic
- Foodies — We couldn’t agree more about this one
- Fusion
- Luscious
- Meltingly Tender
- A Miss
- Mouthfeel
- Nibbles as a Noun
- Nom (or Nom Nom Nom, etc.)
- Pillowy
- Sammies Instead of Sandwiches – Can we add “EVOO” or “tablescapes” or some of the other annoying phrases Food TV has birthed here?
- Savor – we kind of actually like this one
- Tastic
- Toothsome (this and “mouthfeel” always reminded us of toothpaste and dentists)
- Toque
- Unctuous
- Velvety or Silky
- Yummy (Well, maybe in children’s dishes)
For more detail on why Grub Street chose these words, check out their
explanations as to why they should be banned. The comments
are great, too. And feel free to add any that occur to you, as
well.
