Cookies! EYBD Previews, Recipes and More

In September 6th’s roundup, I covered some great cookie cookbooks/magazines and today I want to cover a few more which just happen to be second editions of two of my absolute favorite cookie books. As you may know, I am a sucker for holiday cookies and especially the recipes shared when newspapers run their best cookie contests. See these related posts:

Holiday Cookies – Prize-Winning Family Recipes from the Chicago Tribune for Cookies, Bars, Brownies and More: Second Edition by Chicago Tribune Staff has 28 new recipes added to the 2014 Holiday Cookies. The new recipes are from the last decade and include Pistachio thumbprints, Chocolate salted caramel surprise cookies, Marbled pistachio almond cookies and Sweet potato cookies. The first book was a gem and this new addition with over two dozen new recipes is a must have.

Another must-have cookie book is The Ultimate Minnesota Cookie Book: 100 Best Recipes from the Star Tribune’s Holiday Cookie Contest by Lee Svitak Dean and Rick Nelson. This edition has 35 new recipes added to the 2018 The Great Minnesota Cookie Book. The new recipes include Grasshoppers and dark chocolate fig rolls, Maple-roasted walnut delights, and Tiramisu twists and cardamom cherry buttons. I have had my eye on Kit-Kat treats and the Maple-roasted walnut delights – ever since they were published in the Star Tribune.

Heritage Cookies of the Mediterranean World by Scott and Kate Pavelle is the follow up to Heritage Cookies of the Old and New World which I purchased a few years ago. I recommended the first book to many cookie lovers as I was impressed with the content. This new massive work will be released on November 11th, 2024. This title collects masterpieces from the birthplace(s) of the Western civilization with 250 recipes. Recipes include: Spanish Alemandrados (Almond-Lemon Macaroons), Broas de Mel (Portuguese Honeycakes) and Giuggiulena (Sicilian Sesame Fingers). Kate provides “extra spice notes” which shares stories as well as “cookie nerd moments” which provides detailed information on a particular cookie – perhaps historical background and the science behind a technique. Scott sprinkles husbandly advice throughout. This book contains a wealth of information.

Oh my! I have a weakness for all things baking and more than half of my cookbook library consists of baking books, but I have a particular fondness for cookie cookbooks!! I am also pleased to note that most of the books mentioned here are new to me! I can’t wait to check them out!!
