NEW FEATURE: Adding a book to the EYB Library
May 30, 2022 by JaneUntil now the only way for members to add a missing book to the EYB Library was to import the ISBN number using Import Books, which is available under the My Bookshelf tab (for Premium members only). We then import the book data from Amazon. However this system did not allow for books without an ISBN number or books not listed on Amazon. And even for books listed on Amazon, we have the requirement that the book has a food or drink tag (to prevent new members importing their entire book collection, as has happened several times).
Now we have added a new feature that allows members to add the data for any food or drink book. The link is again under My Bookshelf – click Add Member Books. There is a new Help section that explains all the data you need to add. Please add as much data as possible – if you don’t then we will have to spend a lot of time tracking down the missing data. If you have the book in your hand, it is much easier for you to add the data.
Please note for Vegan and Vegetarian books – add that filter in the “Book Category” not the category labeled “Nutrition”.
Over the years many members have imported ISBN numbers that did not get added. If you would like to refer to your own requests, you can now do so by opening My Added Books, again under the My Bookshelf tab. There is a selection on the right in the green search bar:
- Imported – books that you imported the ISBN for that are now in the Library
- On Amazon – books you imported that are listed on Amazon but did not import as the book was not tagged as food or drink
- Not on Amazon – books you imported that Amazon does not list.
These lists will help you find out which books you own that are missing from your EYB Bookshelf. Members will now be able to have every food and drink book they own listed – no matter how old or how obscure.
Now that it has been a month, just a reminder: Please remember to complete all the data – full title, ISBN (if not a vintage book), publication date, page numbers, etc. Also please do not just add a book title with no other information. For example, before you add Plenty More with no other data – check the Library first as recent, popular books are already in the library. You add those titles to your bookshelf instead of manually “adding a member book”. If you have any questions, please email info@eatyourbooks.com.
Further update: Although this feature is called Member Added Books it can also be used to add magazines and pamphlets.
