Meet Ravenous, a new food website
April 9, 2026 by DarcieFor too long, we have had to bring you stories of food magazines and websites that were laying off workers or shuttering altogether. However, today we’re excited to report some good news: the debut of a new, worker-owned food culture site called Ravenous. The site was founded by respected food journalists and writers from across the US, many of whom we have linked to in the past: Frances Dumlao, Jaya Saxena, Amy McCarthy, Ashok Selvam, and Courtney E. Smith.

Ravenous promises “thoughtful writing and incisive reporting from around the food world” and includes a strict editorial ethics pledge that vows to never use generative AI. Ravenous also imposes a firewall between editorial and ad content to limit any conflicts of interest. While the site will accept ads, the goal is to be subscriber-based so they do not have to rely on advertisements. The first article on the website is an interview with one of the founders, Amy McCarthy. It explains a lot of why she and the others decided to start Ravenous, and gives hints of what we can expect to see on the site.
