It’s pi day, make a pie
March 14, 2026 by DarcieIf you write your dates in the US convention (month/day/year), then today is pi day in honor of the mathematical constant. I usually forget about the “National Pie Day” that occurs in January, but that is okay since today is the logical choice for a day celebrating math used to determine measurements of round objects. Even if you don’t write dates in this manner, it’s simply a great excuse to make a pie.

The EYB Library is brimming with all kinds of pie: more than 8,700 online pie recipes, including the pie shown above, which seems to be everyone’s favorite as there are more photos and notes on that recipe than any other in the Library. Everyone can find something that pleases them in the pie family due to its infinite variety. Pie can be savory or sweet and incorporate fruit, vegetables, custards, and meats – no ingredient is off limits. No matter your dietary preferences or restrictions, everyone can enjoy a slice of pie. Every meal can feature pie, from breakfast to dinner and beyond (there’s no shame in eating pie in your pajamas at 2 am). Whether you are celebrating one of life’s little victories or comforting yourself after a disappointment, pie is the perfect food choice.
There are so many great pie-focused books in the EYB Library that the only difficult part is choosing which one to use first. Member favorites include The Pie and Pastry Bible by Rose Levy Beranbaum, Sister Pie by Lisa Ludwinski, and Bourke Street Bakery by Paul Allem and David McGuinness. Recent pie titles include The Homemade Pie Cookbook: 100 Pie, Tart, and Galette Recipes for Every Season by Laura Klynstra and Galette!: Sweet and Savory Recipes As Easy As Pie by Rebecca Firkser.
