Baking Nation newspaper debuts

We might be losing Cook’s Country, but a new print publication has just launched that could ease the pain. The Kindness Company, has just released its first issue of what it bills as a “baking newspaper,” titled Baking Nation. The first issue is billed as a “true collector’s piece for baking lovers everywhere!” It sounds like there are additional items beyond just the recipes, such as an exclusive mystery series, knitting patterns, and games.

If you are wondering why there are knitting patterns in a baking newspaper, there is a simple explanation. The Kindness Company also publishes Knit Nation and Crochet Nation, newspapers in the same format as Baking Nation. The About page for The Kindness Company says that it was created by Brittany Smiley, as “a new mom, and a daughter slowly losing her own mother to dementia” who wanted to preserve the memories of her favorite things.

The website does not indicate who is writing the recipes, but a snippet showing the inside of the first issue has a section titled “Measuring Accuracy” by Erin Jeanne McDowell – a promising sign. The cost is $7 USD per issue ($84 per year), plus shipping, which is currently $1.97/month if you purchase a full year’s subscription (total of $107.64). There is an option to sign up for the first issue free if you want to just dip your toe in the water before committing to the pricey new venture.
