Samin Nosrat’s favorite books

It is always interesting to learn about the books that have inspired our favorite authors. Samin Nosrat, quickly became an EYB Member favorite with the publication of her award-winning tome Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. Nosrat, who is currently working on a new cookbook, sat down with Vulture and and gave them the rundown on her top ten favorite books. 

As you might expect, the list is diverse and includes a lot of cookbooks. You will find everything from a reference work (Harold McGee’s On Food and Cooking: The Science and Lore of the Kitchen) to a book of poetry (The Hungry Ear: Poems about Food & Festivity by Kevin Young). In between are expansive,  pieces like Gran Cocina Latina: The Food of Latin America by Maricel Presilla and intimate tomes such as Honey from a Weed by Patience Gray.

It’s not surprising that Nosrat’s books are eclectic and vibrant. It seems that Vibration Cooking: Or, the Travel Notes of a Geechee Girl by Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor made Nosrat’s favorites list. While she has certainly found her own voice, you can definitely see how the books she admires have influenced her writing.
