Here’s your chance to talk about cookbooks with experts
April 8, 2019 by DarcieHave you ever wished you could explain the items you would want to see in a cookbook with someone who actually writes them? If you live near Los Angeles, you finally have a chance. As part of its Festival of Books 2019, the LA Times is hosting a panel discussion on cookbook writing titled The Right Recipe: What Makes a Great Cookbook.

The moderator of the talk is Amy Scattergood, a staff writer for the Food section of the LA Times. In addition to degrees from Yale Divinity School, the Iowa Writers Workshop and the Cordon Bleu, Scattergood has co-written a whole grain cookbook. Joining her as a speaker for the discussion is Genevieve Ko, the cooking editor for the Times and a respected cookbook author, and Ben Mims, a food writer, cookbook author, and recipe developer who was just named Cooking Columnist at the Times.
The discussion will be held on Sunday, April 14, and is just one of a handful of activities centered around food that will be part of the Festival of Books. The weekend also features cooking demonstrations by Naz Deravian, Matt & Ted Lee, Alana Newhouse and others, and on Saturday, April 13, Lucas Kwan Peterson leads a conversation with Ruth Reichl, Jonathan Kauffman, Matt Lee, and Ted Lee about their lives and careers in the culinary world. The title of that talk is ‘Beyond the Cookbook: Stories from the World of Food’.
