We always enjoy Serious Eats’ taste tests and find them to be a great guide. As they point out in their Taste Test: Bottled Tartar Sauce, tartar sauce has both fans and serious haters: “There’s no such thing as tartar sauce neutrality. When that nice lady at the clam shack asks you if you want tartar sauce, it’s never “I could take it or leave it.” It’s always a definite yes or a resounding no.”
If your answer to tartar sauce is “yes,” and you simply don’t use enough tartar sauce to justify making it from scratch, this test will lead you to be the best options available. Enjoy!
