Cookbook Giveaway – Quivering Desserts & Other Puddings

Have you ever tasted a real homemade custard pudding? And no, we don’t mean the one that comes from a packet, but a beautiful, trembling cream dessert made the old fashioned way with eggs, sugar, milk and cream.

In Quivering Desserts & Other Puddings you will find recipes for both classic puddings such as vanilla, almond, chocolate and wonderful contemporary versions such as salted caramel pudding with caramel popcorn and white chocolate pudding with jasmine tea. And much, much more.

Sounds difficult? It is not. A real pudding just requires a little time at the stove and some hours in the refrigerator. And the reward – a quivering cream artwork that makes children quiver and adults sigh.

You can learn more about Quivering Desserts & Other Pudding in our author interview with Marie. We’re delighted to offer 5 copies of the book to EYB Members worldwide. One of the entry options is to answer the following question in the comments section of this blog post:

Have you ever made a traditional pudding?

Please note that you must be logged into the Rafflecopter contest before posting or your entry won’t be counted. If you are not already a Member, you can join at no cost. The contest ends October 12, 2016.

I have made homemade, "from scratch" puddings but never in a mold. I absolutely adore the title of this book!

  • tennyogirl  on  September 12, 2016

I love puddings, sticky date, bread and butter, lemon delicious but oh to have a crack at salted caramel…. Now there's a challenge I look forward to!

  • wester  on  September 13, 2016

Bread pudding, semolina pudding, and recently I found how easy it is to use gelatin (for instance to make panna cotta). I could use some inspiration to actually make them, because it always feels like it's going to be a lot of more work than it actually is.

  • Astrid5555  on  September 13, 2016

Yes, but only vanilla. Would love to try other flavours!

  • Seren_Ann  on  September 13, 2016

I have made blanc mange in a mould, not sure if that counts, but I haven't tried any other puddings, it would be interesting !

  • bookpoet  on  September 13, 2016

I have not. But two beautiful ceramic molds that will be perfect for these puddings just arrived from William Sonoma yesterday (they were on deep discount!). This book is designed for my bookshelf, one way or another.

  • Nancith  on  September 14, 2016

I have, but it's been a very long time. I used to make good old Jello molds loaded with fruit or vegetables, plus unmolded puddings of all sort. Maybe it's time to get back into it.

  • WhitneySanderson  on  September 15, 2016

I've started a tradition of making a maple-vanilla custard pudding every Christmas…it's a nice gluten-free alternative to all the cakes and pies!

  • sharpcatherine  on  September 16, 2016

I'm pretty scarred by childhood blancmanges so haven't attempted anything as an adult – clearly I need the book!

  • sarahawker  on  September 16, 2016

  • pandapotamus  on  September 16, 2016

    yes! classic vanilla.

  • t.t  on  September 17, 2016

    not unless creme brulee counts…

  • sgump  on  September 17, 2016

If so-called Indian pudding counts–you know, cornmeal and molasses or maple syrup baked at a relatively low temperature for a long time–then, yes (that's what I'd consider "traditional," anyway, where I'm from). The jasmine version in this book sounds delightfully intriguing, though–and I hope a recipe or two with rosewater is included.

  • lindaeatsherbooks  on  September 18, 2016

  • rivergait  on  September 18, 2016

One time I brought homemade tapioca pudding to a family gathering. My teenage grandchildren were amazed…"…can you really make that [as opposed to Jell-O cups hanging on a dairy rack]?"

  • Barbara14  on  September 21, 2016

I love puddings, using mostly the powdered version, but I have made them from scratch as well. Looking forward to winning this book for a trip around the world of puddings. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • tarae1204  on  September 30, 2016

Plenty of traditional American puddings – never quite sure what the word refers to in British English though!

  • fionajk42  on  September 30, 2016

I regularly make rice pudding, but not generally with cow's milk as I'm lactose intolerant. I sometimes use coconut milk, sometimes almond milk, both of which give good results. Soy milk doesn't seem to work well, it seems to separate and go grainy.

  • rstuart  on  September 30, 2016

    Rice pudding and chocolate mousse…

  • Bhukhhad  on  September 30, 2016

I make a traditional raspberry jelly and sweet cream custard pudding in a mold so that the two layers show beautifully on a plate.
