The Cookbook Course

James Beard Award-winning cookbook editor, Shaun Chavis, has developed an online solution for those writers who wish to grow their brand and write a cookbook. The Cookbook Course, through live lessons, one-on-one coaching, and manuscript reviews, will have you working on your cookbook with the very first lesson.

Shaun Chavis spent four years as a development editor for Time Inc. Books, where she specialized in finding and working with new talent, and managing book concepts from start to finish. Three of her books were Cooking Light list bestsellers. Cooking Light Mad Delicious: The Science of Making Good-for-You Food Taste Amazing! won Time Inc.’s Luce Award for Best Book of the Year and the James Beard Award for Focus on Health in 2015. Shaun worked on The CarbLovers Diet, which spent 11 weeks on The New York Times Nonfiction Best Sellers List. She also edited Southern Living’s first book-to-iPad app, The Big Book of BBQ. As a journalist, Shaun’s worked for ABC News and Health magazine. She has a culinary degree and a Masters in Gastronomy from Boston University. The lady knows her stuff.

  • WEEK 7   Nail Your Voice, Polish Your Story, and Chart Your Finish
  • WEEK 8   Finalizing Your Manuscript and Printing
  • WEEK 9   Use Your Book to Build Your Brand
Guest speakers include:
 
  • Lisa Ekus, of the Lisa Ekus Group, will talk about working with an agent and publishing options 
  • James Schend, food editor at Taste of Home magazine, will talk about writing and testing recipes
  • Felicity Keane, former creative director at Time Inc. Books, will talk about covers and developing the look of your book
  • Hélène Dujardin, food photographer and blogger at Tartelette, author of Plate to Pixel, will talk about cookbook photography. 
  • A bookstore owner and other guest speakers are being lined up.


I have taken a sneek peek at the course and it looks intensive, well-thought out and exciting. I’ll be providing updates and more information as I will be participating in the course.
