Pure Heart – Book Giveaway

Pure Heart: A Spirited Tale of Grace, Grit, and Whiskey by Troylyn Ball and Bret Witter is more than the story of the building of Asheville Distillery and Troy & Sons. It is also an inspirational tale for parents who are dealing with the difficulties of special needs children.

Troy is the first female legal moonshiner in the history of the South. Her life is lived in an Appalachian Mountain city – home to a collection of characters (Big Stone Gap meets moonshining). The story captured my heart – Troy, the mother of two special needs sons, still found time to co-found a center for disabled children, create the perfect moonshine recipe and care for her sons. It is a wonderful book for Mother’s Day gifts. Mothers everywhere can use a little inspiration and sometimes a whole lot of moonshine. As a mother of a son with Asperger’s and bi-polar disorder, I grew courage from her strength.

We are pleased to offer three copies of this title to our EYB Members in the US. One of the entry options is to answer the following question in the comments section of this blog post:

Do you enjoy whiskey and if so – as a drink or as an ingredient?

I enjoy Whiskey as a drink but I also use it as an ingredients because it adds so much flavor to certain recipes. If you've never tried it, you definitely should.

I don't like the smell of whiskey but I would use it in a recipe, since the smell would be gone.

  • RSW  on  May 30, 2017

As an ingredient. not straight up.

  • Scotsman61  on  May 30, 2017

As a Scotsman, I do enjoy a Dram of Single Malt, 21 yr old Isle of Jura is my preference.

As A Chef/Baker Yes I use it in several of my recipes. but I'm afraid I use Scotch WHISKY or Irish WHISKEY, not Bourbon WHISKEY

  • elinwoods  on  June 2, 2017

I love to sip on scotch. I'm an Islay girl, all the way. However, living in the states, I have found myself enjoying some of the small-batch bourbon options in the summer.

  • Pgarner9  on  June 2, 2017
