The worst gifts ever

What’s more fun than sharing your favorite food and cooking holiday gifts that you received? A list of the worst gifts you ever got. While the list is not specifically for kitchen items, several people recounted presents that were food or cooking- related. One woman, who bought her husband an expensive Tag Heuer watch, received a cheap blender from him. To make it worse, they already owned three blenders.

Another person received a can opener from her mother, while one woman recounted a gift that does not sound that bad – a set of miniature butter knives with ceramic fruit and vegetables as the handles. The problem was that she was 7 years old at the time. My grandmother may have given me some questionable clothing gifts when I was young, but never a set of butter knives.

The next list is a good reminder that one person’s worst gift could be someone else’s happily received present – the first person on this list received a baking sheet – two years in a row. I would be glad to receive it, but this person hated anything to do with cooking. Another woman received a freezer from her mother-in-law, which did not fit into her house but conveniently fit into the mother-in-law’s house. She “stored” it for her daughter-in-law for years.

I cannot recall receiving a truly terrible cooking-related gift, even if some of the items I received were not ones I would have chosen for myself, like a 12-inch springform pan. That thing was huge, and I never saw a recipe that called for such a large pan so it went to a charity shop after a few years – hopefully someone else will love it. I will leave you with one final horrible present: don’t get on Alton Brown’s naughty list or you might get this. What’s the worst kitchen gift you have received?

My worst food-related gift was when my boyfriend at the time gave me a meat thermometer. I am – and was then – a vegetarian.

    That relationship did not last.

My (ex) husband bought me a chocolate fountain. I’m allergic to chocolate.
