Food news antipasto

Carla Hall fans who were dismayed when she was taken off the Holiday Baking program on Food Network now have a reason to celebrate: the chef and television host will be appearing in Gordon Ramsay’s baking competition show, Next Level Baker. Hall joins Ramsay and Candace Nelson in the series, which airs on Fox beginning December 4. In other Gordon Ramsay news, the chef plans to open a 60’s-themed restaurant at Disneyland. Doesn’t he ever get tired?

Speaking of people who seem unstoppable, Joanna Gaines just launched a new food line at Target, which includes her buttermilk biscuits. In addition to those, the The Magnolia Table line offers five other frozen products: banana bread, cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, silo cookies, and sugar cookies.

We wanted to share a couple of updates to the World Calendar of Cookbook events this week. First, Anna Ansari is promoting Silk Roads with a tour that features stops in Canada, the US, and the UK. Also, events have been added for Diana Henry as she tours in support of Around the Table.

GBBO alum Nadiya Hussain no longer has any shows on BBC, but she is okay with her departure. She tells Woman and Home that she is becoming the ‘truest, most honest version’ of herself post-BBC. Hussain said that there was constant pressure on her to present herself in a certain way, to the point of not wearing a favorite type of sweater because she received negative feedback. She is looking forward to doing things her way going forward, although she has no firm plans for what’s next.

When the first boxed wines were introduced, once could appreciate the price and convenience, but the quality – not so much. That has changed in recent years as producers have begun to embrace the environmental benefits to using bag-in-box wines and as drinking habits have changed. Hannah Crosby explains why bag-in-box wines are here to stay.

A few years ago Nusret Gökçe, better known as Salt Bae, was riding high as his eye-popping priced steaks sold like hotcakes. However, the empire he built off social media hype appears to be crumbling, with most of his US locations shuttered, and the remaining ones hemorrhaging loads of cash. An empire that was essentially built on “one weird trick” was not meant to last. Maybe he could get some tips from Gordon Ramsay or Joanna Gaines.
