Upcoming cookbooks and events, EYBD Previews and more

Today, I will tell you about a few upcoming titles that I am loving!

First up, Chesnok: Cooking from My Corner of the Diaspora: Recipes from Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, and Central Asia by Polina Chesnakova is a must have for this Cookbooktober. I love Polina’s cookbooks and was thrilled to learn of this title. Chesnok translates to a head of garlic. This gorgeous book is a love letter to the food of the author’s childhood. Born in Ukraine to Russian and Armenian parents from the Republic of Georgia, she grew up cooking and eating at the hips of her mother and aunts. Chesnok paints a picture of the Soviet diaspora through food, and is for the children of that diaspora, but it is also for anyone looking to expand their palate and pantry and learn the rich history of a people through their most cherished recipes and traditions. I bought walnut cookie molds (even though I already own this pan) to make the Oreshhki cookies as my first recipe! EVENTS

Next up is 108 Asian Cookies: Not-Too-Sweet Treats from a Third-Culture Kitchen by Kat Lieu, author of some of my favorite titles, honors the varied and rich tapestry of Asian cultures and ingredients to bring us a cookie baking book like no other. Along with members from Subtle Asian Baking, the online baking group she founded, she delivers a diverse array of original and member-submitted drool-worthy recipes for cookies and bakes incorporating ingredients from the diaspora including gochujang, ube, miso, fish sauce, sambal, tahini, matcha, and MSG stirred into each batter and dough. Be sure to check it out! EVENTS

And lastly, The Comic Book History of the Cocktail: Five Centuries of Mixing Drinks and Carrying On by David Wondrich: I don’t often write about cocktail books but this one is very cool and will appeal to the cocktail lover as well as those who love comic books/graphic novels. It delivers a history of the cocktail – from prehistoric wassail to our current boozy renaissance – featuring 20 recipes by drinks historian, Daily Beast columnist, and award-winning author Wondrich. It would make the perfect gift for the upcoming holiday season.

We added Boston Public Market – Boston MA to our Calendar. Food writer, Matt Robinson hosts Cookbook Chats at BPM and we will update the Calendar when other dates are finalized. Robinson has been writing about food (and various other passions and interests) for nearly 20 years. His work has appeared in over 120 international publications as have his restaurant reviews and “Chef Chat” interview columns.

A huge thank you to all our Member Indexers who work hard allowing us to index more titles! This week a special shout out to Shelmar’s husband John who indexed Grand Livre de Cuisine: Alain Ducasse’s Culinary Encyclopedia by Alain Ducasse! This volume contained 649 recipes and John added the French recipe titles as well!

PLEASE NOTE: If you have had a book assigned to you, check your email folders (spam/junk). I am clearing up Member Indexing titles and emailing Members to get a status update. If you request to Member Index a book – I email you to make sure you did indeed want to take on the task. If you do not respond, I cannot assign the title.
