Best food-related April Fools’ Day pranks
April 1, 2025 by DarcieI completely forgot it was April Fools’ Day, so a couple of social media posts had me really puzzled before I realized what was going on. Overall, it seemed like there were not as many posts trying to fool people as in years past – maybe everyone thinks there is enough weirdness going on without adding to it. Although I only encountered one video that was food-related, the team at today.com did, and they posted their list of the best April Fools’ Day pranks.

Many of the jokes involved fake collaborations between companies with no possible connection, like Denny’s and MattressFirm joining together to create “a red corner booth bed complete with a Denny’s breakfast warming drawer, sized to fit two of the diner’s signature Grand Slams.” Other fake collaborations were more plausible but still strange, like Califia (the plant-based milk company) teaming up with Tabasco hot sauce to create a product called PepperMilk.
Other companies chose to make silly product announcements. My favorite one of those was the “quieter” Nestle Crunch Bar “made with boiled rice for 75% less noise.” Kikkoman’s fake soy perfume was another that made me chuckle. That wasn’t the only beauty-inspired faux product. Mrs. T’s Pierogies offered a “premium pampering set” featuring “Whipped Mashed Potatoes & Cheesy Goodness Face Cream.”
