Top 2024 cookbooks added to Member Bookshelves by region

On December 9th, I shared this year’s list of top books added to Member bookshelves in 2024. That list included 56 titles as I included a few additional books that were on 100 Bookshelves.

A few Members asked if I could do a similar breakdown of those books by country and like the U.S. Postal Service, “we deliver for you.”

Please remember that Ottolenghi Comfort was published in the UK, as well as the United States and Canada. The majority of Members have the UK version on their Bookshelf. The same applies for RecipeTin Eats – Tonight / Delicious Tonight which was published in Australia, as well as the United States – the majority of Members have the AU edition on their Bookshelves. – Note some Members may just add the first book they come across to their Bookshelves not checking the ISBN or country of publication – but these numbers are basically close to being correct.

    Jenny! Thanks for wading through all that data and providing these lists…it’s always interesting to have peek at members bookshelves.

    CBC radio (specifically The Current) recently did a show where prominent individuals in the Canadian food world discussed why cookbooks remain so popular in a time of Instagram & TikTok and they each gave some of their picks for great cookbooks from 2024. It was great to hear about so many diverse choices including Sift, Chuck’s Home Cooking, Nature’s Candy & RecipeTin Eats Tonight, all of which are included in your lists.

    I’m in the US but opted to buy the UK edition of Ottolenghi Comfort so I could get the better (IMO) cover. I wonder if a lot of other people did that as well.

      Darcie – I did too and I gifted Jane a copy – but I don’t believe hundreds of people did that – but maybe they did – and the US publisher had an option where US/CA people could buy the US edition with the UK cover. I only wrote about Ottolenghi and RecipeTin – so that people wouldn’t come back and say – why isn’t it on the US list too? I didn’t want to dig too deep. 🙂

    As I live in Switzerland I usually get the UK copies of books (I get the Australian versions of Nagi‘s books) as that is what Amazon sells in Germany (we have no Amazon in Switzerland and the UK has increased postage to ridiculous levels after Brexit – although I never lived in the EU!)

    I just did a quick check of Amazon Canada for Ottolenghi Comfort. Both covers are available for purchase but the (much nicer 🙂 UK covered book is $13.50 CA more than the US cover!
