Google’s top recipe searches of 2020
January 14, 2021 by DarcieAfter cooking morning, noon, and night, who among us wasn’t desperate to find new recipes last year? Most readers here likely opted to use the EYB Library to search for what to cook for the next meal, but of course worldwide, Google is the top English-language search engine. Naturally they have kept track of what people searched for in 2020, and have released the list of the top 10 recipe searches of the year.

No one will be shocked to hear that the number one recipe search was for sourdough bread. With yeast all but impossible to find, people had to start from scratch if they wanted to bake a loaf of bread (those who were lucky enough to have a stash of flour, anyway). Brands sharing their ‘secret’ recipes was another top pandemic trend, and many of those foods made the list as well, including Dole Whip and Disney churro.
In addition to foods, Google also published its top ten alcoholic drink recipe searches. The results were not, in my opinion, inspiring: the number one search was for White Claw slushies. Various margaritas made the list, as did one that surprised me a little, the Martinez cocktail. That is pretty much on the other end of the spectrum from the number one search.
