Bourdain Day remembrances
June 25, 2020 by DarcieToday would be Anthony Bourdain’s 64th birthday, and the culinary world still mourns his loss. His friends Eric Ripert and José Andrés started #BourdainDay in 2018 as a day to honor the chef, author, and television star. Today remembrances have been streaming through social media.

Ripert tweeted “Celebrating My Dear Friend Anthony Bourdain. THX for your unconditional Friendship & loyalty, special moments & laughters! The inspiration, talent, legacy. On your birthday we remember & celebrate your life. Where ever you are Cheers!!” Andrés posted a video and urged others to do it as well, saying “Let’s do a video celebrating #BourdainDay with a cocktail, in a bar, at home cooking your call!”
Those who didn’t know him personally shared their favorite Bourdain quotes. One that particularly resonates with me is “Without experimentation, a willingness to ask questions and try new things, we shall surely become static, repetitive, and moribund.” Today’s tumultuous world could use a little of Bourdain’s wit and wisdom. What I wouldn’t give to hear his thoughts on the pandemic’s effects on restaurants and the army of workers that make them run.
