Wine helps prevent bone loss & thank you Marion Cunningham
July 12, 2012 by Lindsay
Two news items recently caught our attention – one good news
(for many of us, at least) and one sad. On the good news front,
Salt at NPR reports that drinking a moderate amount of
wine helps women prevent bone loss: “A new study of women in
their 50s and early 60s finds that moderate alcohol
consumption may help prevent bone loss. The women in the study
consumed about one-and-a-half drinks per day.” You can read the
science behind these findings here.
And we certainly couldn’t let Marion Cunningham’s passing go by unnoticed. A tireless advocate for home cooking, she supported James Beard and dicovered Alice Waters. But it is for her cookbooks that we at EYB are most grateful – the iconic Breakfast Book, the encouraging Learning to Cook and, of course, reestablishing The Fanny Farmer Cookbook as a must have for the bookshelf. Check out her author’s page here at EYB for a wonderful way to remember her.
