New Zealand has thrown down the cereal gauntlet
September 18, 2012 by Lindsay
Somehow in the excitement of the Olympics last month, we didn’t notice that 648 New Zealand school children honored their Olympic team by tackling a special challenge. 648 children, along with their teachers, ate more than 300 boxes of Weet-Bix cereal, soaked with 106 gallons of milk, thereby earning the world record for most cold breakfast cereal consumed. (Weet-Bix, for those of you not familiar with it, is a high-fiber wheat biscuit cereal – think shredded wheat – that is very popular with our friends in Australia and New Zealand.) The previous title-holders were from Rye, New York.
However, Kate Krader over at Eatocracy noticed this accomplishment, and is proposing some cereals to spur a repeat challenge. In her article, The hardest-working cereals on the shelf, she argues that “We have some training to do, to get back the cereal-eating title. Here are some cereals to help the cause, no matter what your special dietary restrictions might be. Chocolate-for-breakfast cereal? Check. Save-the-world cereal? Check. Coffee-meets-cereal? Check. Go, team!” She also presents her candidates for “On-the-run cereal” and “Cereal-for-your-health-nut-friends.”
Personally, we’ll be on the search for some Weet-Bix.
