Everything you needed to know about the world’s best-selling cookie
May 24, 2013 by Lindsay
It’s probably not too surprising that Oreos are the world’s best-selling cookie. After all, people have been known to rate possible friends, even marital candidates, based on whether they ate the cookie as a sandwich, or twisted off the top and licked the inside. Or whether they prefer their Oreo dunked or undunked. So here’s a few facts on Oreos that we thought you might be interested in (chosen from BuzzFeed‘s 13 Things You Don’t Know About Oreo Cookies):
- The first Oreo was sold in Hoboken, New Jersey.
- The cookie-to-creme ratio of an original Oreo cookie is 71% to 29%.
- They became kosher in 1998.
- 50% of all Oreo eaters pull apart their cookies before eating them. Also, women twist them open more often than men.
But we really wanted to write about Oreos to remind people – as they go into the long weekend at least here in the U.S. – that an Oreo cake is one of the simplest – and best – summertime recipes going. And it can easily feed a party. Here’s a highly rated version from Two Peas and Their Pod, full recipe available online, that we found at the EYB libary.
