The last two weeks: Global dessert cookbooks, EYBD Previews, giveaways, best books of 2020 and more
January 1, 2021 by JennyHow the rest of the world “desserts” is totally fascinating to me. You can bet your last dollar if there is a dessert book for a certain ethnicity I have it or I am on my way to finding it because I have a cookbook addiction which is even worse when it comes to baking titles.
As I was strolling through Facebook last week, a friend shared photographs of her holiday baking which included traditional Croatian treats. My mother’s side of the family has Croatian ties and I started researching any baking books focusing on Croatia’s desserts. I came across an article entitled: Croatian desserts: 13 sweets the world should know about by Andrea Pisac which led to her cookbook Croatian Desserts: 50 Authentic Recipes To Make At Home and I ordered it immediately and I am enjoying it immensely. I am also in the process of checking out Andrea’s blog recipes now.
I love to discover new desserts by utilizing the search filters in the EYB Library. For instance, searching “online recipes” and “desserts” renders nearly 27,000 recipes. I can then scale that number down by ethnicity. For instance choosing Australasia & Pacific brings the number of recipes down to 149.
In my collection I have titles that include (but are certainly not limited to):
- The Way of Kueh: Savouring & Saving Singapore’s Heritage Desserts
- Kyotofu: Uniquely Delicious Japanese Desserts
- The Italian Baker (other Italian titles)
- Windmills in My Oven: Dutch Baking
- ScandiKitchen Fika and Hygge: Comforting Cakes and Bakes from Scandinavia with Love
- The Art of French Pastry (other French titles)
- Bakeland: Nordic Treats Inspired by Nature (other Scandi titles)
- Jason Licker‘s Asian inspired pastry books
- Classic German Baking

- Greek Pastries and Desserts
- How to Cook Philippine Desserts: Cakes and Snacks
