This week: Recipes for peaches and taking care of yourself, cookbook giveaways and EYBD Previews
August 8, 2020 by JennyInstagram famous Leslie Jordan begins almost every video with “hello fellow hunker downers, how you all doin?” I have been wondering how all of our members are coping during this time? I watch Leslie’s videos every day and they bring a smile to my face. Lately, I feel as if I’m in a continual loop of Groundhog’s Day, the Twilight Zone edition. Cooking and cookbooks are doing their part to keep me sane but I want to get out and be with people – just not the two I live with (my husband and son). I have discovered that there is such a thing as too much togetherness even though I love them (most of the time).
Very soon I will have peaches to look forward to. Here in Colorado, we are in peak peach season. Palisade, Colorado is renowned for its ability to grow some of North America’s best fruit, and especially their Palisade peaches. In 1909, the town celebrated the first Peach Day festival, with President Taft as the speaker. Every year I buy a box of peaches and make all things peach: peach preserves, peach cobbler, peach pie and so on. I like to grill them and roast them with chicken and who doesn’t like to eat a juicy ripe piece of fruit? Below is my photo of one of my favorite recipes that I make every year.
Peach, vanilla & fennel seed mini loaves
This weekend, I have a sourdough project to tackle, bread to bake, and two dessert recipes to create to try a new flour. What are you doing to take care of yourself during this year of COVID? What baking or preserving projects have you set for yourself? Here are a few articles that may inspire you: 15 Self-care ideas, quarantine baking ideas, prepare your pantry for holiday baking, DIY homemade gifts for the holidays, and start planning which food gifts you will make this year.
This Week on our Blog
Since our last roundup, Darcie has written articles entitled: All about eggplants, To the restaurants I never knew, and those that I love, the three essential baking pans everyone needs in their kitchen, and Historic Mexican recipes now available as e-books. Darcie’s weekly food news antipasto is shared every Sunday #foodnews brings up these information-packed posts from the most current to the first one.
This week, I shared my vow to bring another sourdough starter into the world and a US/CA giveaway for Washington Wine + Food. Also, I have spent time updating the Library as book titles, covers, and publication dates are constantly changing and I’ve even begun a listing of 2021 cookbook releases which I will share in a few months. The Looking forward to 2020 cookbook preview post and the Kindle cookbook deals are being continually updated. For new members, our post on ideas on how to make EYB work better for you may be helpful.
Lastly, I have a Bundt package giveaway going on at Instagram. Open worldwide. Please enter!
